Invitation from the Chair

Dear Distinguished Guests,

On behalf of the organizing committee, I’m very pleased to invite you to attend the Webinar of Global Health Practice for Greater Mekong Subregion (GHPGMS2020) scheduled to be held on 3-5 December 2020. This event is funded by the “Belt and Road” International Medical Education Training Program, and organized by School of Global Health, Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. In this webinar, we will share the concept of “One Health” and apply the Spatial Epidemiology Analytics with the GMS countries in the control and elimination of tropical diseases, especially in the pandemic of the novel emerging zoonotic diseases.

We cordially hope you may spare time from your tight schedule to register and participate in the webinar link (http://www.ipd.org.cn/itc/ghpgms2020). Your participation will surely add value to the success of this training program. Warmly welcome your participation.

Sincerely yours

Background

Tropical diseases, like dengue, malaria, schistosomiasis, and etc. are endangering the public health in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) (Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and China). The outbreak of novel emerging zoonotic diseases and the subsequent development of the pandemic have affected the elimination progress of tropical diseases in GMS. President Xi Jinping at opening of 73rd World Health Assembly called for the human kind fighting pandemics through solidarity and cooperation by building a global community of health for all.

To respond to these challenges, it is helpful to adopt novel perspective and tools to evaluate the potential impacts. Based on the current base of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation framework, this project aims to introduce, disseminate and apply Chinese successful experiences in the control of recent pandemic as well as the vector-borne tropical diseases. By holding professional seminars and training courses, we can share and apply the technologies with the GMS countries in risk.

Objective

In this training course, we will share the concept of “One Health” and apply the Spatial Epidemiology Analytics with the GMS countries in risk. By doing so, we can build up a cooperation and information sharing network in name of tropical diseases with the framework of Lancang-Mekong Publich Health Cooperation. This project will provide a solid foundation and technological support for vector-borne tropical diseases control in both China and Southeast Asia countries.
